I followed the directions on a post for the 6637 air filter mod. Looking at everyone's pics here, they have LOTS of room between the filter and the fender wall. Mine is all mushed in there. The post listed a 6" piece of 4" exhaust pipe, but I cut mine down to more like 4.5" and it still wedges the darned thing in. Where did I go wrong? If I knew how to post a pic I would. Thanks!!!
Mine's all mushed in there too. 2-3" pieces of 4" dia tubing and clamps hold the works together and it is tight. I am happy with that. No binding though. Sits there nicely.
Geat, thanks guys. I'll see if I can hack it down tomorrow. I'd really like to get the clogged indicator thingy on there. Please excuse the technical terminology.

You really don't need the clogged indicator thingy AKA filter minder. Nice touch but who cares? When the filter is dirty, replace it.
I used a 3" piece of pipe in mine. Here's a pic from above. The tab that is circled in yellow is one of the stock airbox mounting points.
I use that little tab as well to keep a little pressure against the intake tube. Since I didn't use a piece of pipe to connect the filter to the intake tube, it's a little extra insurance that it won't pop off. I've had no problems to date with it coming off.
