In addition to adding a chip would it be advisable to also add a K&N Air Filter to enhance the changes? Will the chip also help the ping or will it need High Octane?

What about a Mid Grade Gasoline?

The chip would require premium fuel to gain the listed horsepower. We have tried mid-grade in several vehicles and have lost power and mileage in every one of them. I am not sure what you are asking about the ping, do you have pinging now??? The truck should not ping now or after chip installation. It will ping after chip installation if you use regular fuel. The chip advances the timing for premium fuel and will create a pre-ignition ping on regular. If you have pinging now, try unhooking the positive battery cable for about 30 minutes, then reconnect it. This should help the ecu to readjust a bit beter for regular fuel. If you are presently using premium fuel, the truck will most likely ping until you either use regular fuel or chip it to adjust the timing.
