. . . . just recalled that under my 96 F150 4x4 w/5.8L, ( all at stock, till the 29th ), there is NO skid plate of any kind under the whole truck ! ! ! . . . . . . wondering if anyone new of the stock setup being to have one or any of, that i should be aware of / should get a hold of and have installed??? I have no idea about's what was on this truck, bought it as it has NO plate's for underneither and would like to know WHAT I should have, to be concerned IF to got out 4x4'ng through trail's/beach etc.....(that's light 4x4'ng for now)........thx for any suggestion's/comment's/pointer's upon this question of concern.......
I live in 4x4 heaven ( Denver/Rocky Mt area) and I looked at dozens of 4x4 87-96 F150s and only saw two with factory skids under the transfer case and the gas tank. Factory skids are a rare option. It is more common on Broncos of the same vintage it seems.
I have always thought that it is a crime for the factory to let a 4x4 get out of the factory without skid plates. Skids should be like spare tires--not an option--but standard equipment for a factory 4x4!!That magnesium TC hanging down on the driver's side is just ready to make expensive contact with a rock.
Check out the Broncos in the bone yards--the transfer case skid should probably fit your F150.

...thx for the reply's and good info on this; mrl390, jeffj2689, & phoneman91 ... . . . . . much ablige . . . . . . . . . . . . .[ guess i'm gonna half to go out-a-hunting / or Fab one for the transfercase area, just be on the safe side... ]
I have the xsfer plate for my 94 4x4 sc long bed I took off. I was dragging it on berm hump pulling out on to city streets around my home town . Long and stock hight don't mix. I put one ( fabbed off a Bronco ) On 1 truck I did off road with. But really unless your hard core your don't need them. Yes I've dented a tank a time or 2 but no biggie.
Does sound like a neat part to search for. Good luck
. . . . just a bit more info on the truck: Reg Cab/Short Box; automatic with OD; has only 1 gas tank,(rear one, above the rear spare tire_area; front and rear sway bars,( looking to remove the rear one once 4" Lift kit get's installed); has trailer/tow package; Trans_Cooler & Pwr_Steering Cooler; ................
........just seem's weird/ funny my 96 Explorer XLT w/4.0L has plate's under tranfer case & gas tank, BUT this 96 F150 XLT 4x4 w/5.8L doesn't have a one..... ????!!!!
Out of the 18 or so 80-97 F-truck I owned only 3 Had transfer plate .
Wow...I must be a lucky one with the factory skid plate up front and one over the T-case. The T-case cover is peppered with dents over the years...glad I've got it or the Borg 1356 would be toast!
Were the twin steering stabilizers (front and rear) standard on all 150's? Or was that part of the "off road" package as well?
