AOD noises help need your wisdom
This developed (hoping the above noise is releated) into a clicking rapping sound in all gears and park. When cool not so bad, barely audible, but as it warms up it is quite loud.
Have been under van with stethescope and it is obviously comming from the bellhousing. no where else.
Does this sound like the Torque converter ?
If so what Torque converrter is recommended for the AOD in a clubwagon often towing around 4000 lbs?
Don't know what year AOD or which engine you have. The stall rpm of the converter is matched to the engine. Typically, a higher stall rpm for a smaller displacement engine and a lower stall rpm for a larger displacement engine. AODs were typically only used behind the smaller engines (like 5 liters) and there really is only one converter. There are aftermarket converters with higher stall rpm but Ford only really used one converter with the AOD. It should work fine towing 4000 lbs. I tow about that with my 4R70W (AODE) and an OE converter with no touble at all.
