I just crashed my 97 ranger into my house. Now I need parts. Only problem is, I don't know the name of the piece directly above the front bumper, and below the grill. Its about 2/2.5 inches wide and goes from side to side. It is fiberglass.
Also...ALWAYS make sure you put vehicle in gear and apply park brake!!! Don't learn the hard way...like me.
That sucks man! I feel for you. You should have no problem finding the part you need at your local junk yard. If you go to one of them places that you pull your own parts then you dont have to know what that thing is called.
I believe you are referring to the front valance. I typed it into http://car-part.com/ but wasn't sure of your options (slash, fog lamps etc). The plain vanilla ones seem to be popping up back to 1993ish. Good luck!
Although not ford-specific, the following little helped me match the names to the bumper parts (after n-d's post made me realize I needed re-calibration):
A header panel is a large, across the front end fibreglass (usually) panel that the grille and lights fit into. No Ford truck has ever used a header panel. Ford began using them in 1966. The first: C6MY-8190-A = full sized Merc.
valance is what ive called the part and been understood. Lots of places sell them aftermarket or im sure you can get one in the boneyard.. dont know where youre located but it should be an easy find
Whoa!! Feel for ya noneofit. I'm usually lucky enough to have the truck roll a bit to remind me to put it in gear and put the ebrake on. On occasion, I've jumped into her just to be horrified to find that I had left it in neutral with no ebrake on. Just one of those annoying things with a manual.
You could always remove the parts you need to replace and bring them to a good bone yard, drop them on a counter and say 'I need one of these'. Happens all the time there. Lots of old Rangers on the road and in the boneyards.
Sounds like the header panel to me, if it is it goes behind the headlights and your headlights and grill are held on by this piece. If you can't find 1 in your color you will have to have it painted if you want it to match.
Thats funny, I just had to put my front end back together, and had to replace a fiberglass piece that goes all the way across the truck, has all the lights mounted to it, and has that 2-3" wide strip of visible body color right under the headlight.
I had parked the truck in the shade in my driveway. It has a very slight incline. I put a TPS on it and was installing a Wilson trucker cell antenna. I had to walk to my shop about a hundred feet away, to drill a hole in a bracket for the antenna. I heard a loud noise, when I looked out the truck was against my house. It had been sitting there about an hour while I was working on it. I put it in the shop this morning, supposed to get it back by the weekend. $1,700 to fix it.
The piece I was asking about is a 'header panel' as several here accurately stated. Many thanks.
