Many of you have been very helpful in making my decision to go to a V10 vs. A diesel.
Does anyone know about these dealers costs that Ford posts, Edmunds, Kelly Blue Book etc. Are they really the dealers true costs
or not. I know about the 3% holdback and have figured that in but wonder on these published costs if they are true. Why would Ford tell potential customers on their web site what their dealer costs are unless they are less and they want us to think they are higher than really are.
I am looking at a MSRP of $39220.00 and they are offerring it to me for $36,893.00 before rebates.
If the dealer doesn't show you the "dealer invoice" walk away, there are many out there that will. GEnerally I make a deal $100 over invoice, everyone gotta eat.
Do the email search of the dealer inventory and then email the dealer for the price. I got my truck that way for $30 over dealer invoice. I was very happy with that deal, plus no pressure from the dealer. I even shopped around to other salesmen I was talking to and they couldn't match that price.
The Manager explained it like this, the Buyer can cover 50 dealers in 1 day looking for a truck online, if the dealer wants to sell it, he'll give you a bottom line price right off the bat.
Plus, you're not dealing with the salesmen and their commission.
When I was looking at an 08, there was about $2500 markup in a $37K truck. A friend owns a Ford dealer and said that Ford has lowered the MSRP, but did not lower the dealer costs so they have much less markup to work with.
Teh way I understand it Dealer Invoice isn't actually what the dealer pays for the vehicle, it is more like what the vehicle is insured for while it is on the lot.
You might want to try posting this question in the "car/truck buying advice" forum. Lots of those kinda questions in there. It is located under the general forums section at the bottom.
I don't trust any of these dealer invoices and such. You can never really tell (unless you have inside knowledge) what is the actual dealers' cost. One good way to get a decent price it to go for a one or two year old vehicle because you know it will have lost $10K-$15K in that first year alone. But you have to want to settle for a one or two year old.
