Help with invoice totals

Looking at a truck today..

Got invoice in front of me.
Someone care to educate me a little here..

Total vehicle & options ....... Suggested Retail 48845.00 -- 42749.00 cost
not including D&D 850.00 Gas 34.45
they also wrote on the invoice -- bedliner 186.00

add all this up and it comes to 43,819.00 but
at the bottom of the invoice in "excel" type boxes it says -across the page

FDAF/LMDA ASSESSMENT
$506.00
INVOICE TOTAL
$44139.45
LESS HOLDBACK FOR DEALER
$1470.00 ( which is what about 3.3 %)
LESS APPROX FINANCING COST FOR DEALER
$300.00
MEMO INVOICE LESS HOLDBACK AND FIN COST
$42369.45

now just under that and across the page is
1470.00 - 346.00 -- 9458.00 --.00 -- 1124.00 --32991.00
(no clue as to what all this is)

and also I have
A/Z Plan 42,238.45
D-Plan 42,338.45
X-Plan 44,037.89

I get 43,819.45 for invoice where are they getting 44139.00?
Whats really true dealer cost?

I know that the current "simple plan" is Xplan plus $100.00 plus any rebates.
But always heard you can take dealerhold back or a percentage of it off the total invoice.

So if true dealer cost is ...

42369.00 which is Invoice less holdback and Fin cost (from above)
and xplan is 44037.00 +100.00. = 44,137.89
this is 1768.00 differece.. does this mean I still have some play room.

also thought that dealer keeps rebates, so if i have 3500.00 in rebates then they are making a $5268.00 profit on the truck right.

So shouldnt one subtract the rebates from the true dealer cost
42369.00-3500.00=38869.00 + give them 5% (1943.45) + D&D, Tax and Fees?
38869.00 + 1943.45 (5%) + 850.00 (d&d) = 41662.45 plus tax, title.?

Instead of simple plan price of 44137.00 plus tax title

also they are figuring
Plan price + tax + title, plates - rebates for their total.
should rebates come off before tax ???? cant remember!

Thanks in advance

I'm convinced that invoices are complicated on purpose to confuse and disempower the consumer. Oh well, at least I know what my shreddies cost.

It's simpler than it looks. Here's a breakdown- works the same for every Ford or GM invoice you'll look at.

"Cost" is before freight, advertising, etc- so it's really just a sub-total amount.

add all this up and it comes to 43,819.00 but
at the bottom of the invoice in "excel" type boxes it says -across the page

FDAF/LMDA ASSESSMENT
$506.00
Regional advertising assessment
INVOICE TOTAL
$44139.45
This is what the dealer paid Ford for the unit, plus the bedliner or any "dealer" adds.
LESS HOLDBACK FOR DEALER
$1470.00 ( which is what about 3.3 %)
should be exactly 3%, but is calculated on MSRP less freight.
LESS APPROX FINANCING COST FOR DEALER
$300.00 amount given to dealer to offset flooring expense.
MEMO INVOICE LESS HOLDBACK AND FIN COST
$42369.45 actual net "cost"

now just under that and across the page is
1470.00 - 346.00 -- 9458.00 --.00 -- 1124.00 --32991.00
(no clue as to what all this is) ignore it- it'll just confuse you. Breakdown of subtotalled items

and also I have
A/Z Plan 42,238.45
D-Plan 42,338.45
X-Plan 44,037.89
self-explanatory- plan prices.

this is 1768.00 difference.. does this mean I still have some play room.

Dealer never gets to keep rebates- they always go to the consumer.

So shouldn't one subtract the rebates from the true dealer cost
42369.00-3500.00=38869.00 + give them 5% (1943.45) + D&D, Tax and Fees?
38869.00 + 1943.45 (5%) + 850.00 (d&d) = 41662.45 plus tax, title.?

No- rebates come off of the price, and Tax & Title are separate transactions. They have nothing to do with the invoice of the vehicle. The rebate might be taxed- depends on the state. In California and Washington, sales tax is calculated on the selling price before rebates. In any event, leave the Tax and tabs out of the transaction until the end- that's why Jeff and I get so confused when we try to figure a deal that's been presented- it varies state to state, but doesn't impact the dealers profit picture.

Instead of simple plan price of 44137.00 plus tax title

also they are figuring
Plan price + tax + title, plates - rebates for their total.

Thanks in advance[/QUOTE]

Lets define "invoice" and cost. Invoice is the amount identified as dealer invoice- this is the amount that the dealer actually paid Ford for the vehicle. It includes holdback (which is paid back to the dealer in the form of a reserve account), and FDAF (regional advertising assessment), gas, etc.

"Cost" is memo invoice less holdback and finance credit- but... it's not really cost, because from there the dealer internally has to account for overhead items to arrive at a real cost of sales (light, heat, facility, wages, etc).

Your "wiggle room" is the $1470 holdback, and don't expect many dealers to dig into that- if at all.

Does that help?
