Warranty issue

I finally was able to get my truck into the dealership for service due to the severe surging and stalling issue that my truck was experiencing.........I had tried the EBP sensor with no result, so I took it in.............Got a call yesterday telling me that the truck was ready. Went to pick it up and had a bill for $500.00. I was under the impression that the powertrain warranty on a 2004 6.0 Powerstroke was good for 100,000 miles and included all of its components. They replaced the EGR valve, which I had disconnected, and the connector for the ICP solenoid....I'm guessing this is actually the ICP sensor. When I spoke to the service manager about the warranty question, I was told that these items aren't covered under the manufacturer's warranty, keep in mind my truck has only 75K miles. Am I wrong about the warranty or do I have a legitimate beef? Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated,

It was my understanding the EGR Valve was covered under emissions. Could be wrong though.

The ICP sensor is covered under the 5/100K power train warranty as listed on page 7 of your warranty guide in the glove box.

The EGR valve is covered under the "Emmissions Warranty" (see pages 11-14), which is 3/36K for 8500 or less GVWR and 5/50K for 8501 or more GVWR check your door sticker for your GVWR.
FYI California vehicles have a different emissions warranty, check your manual.

Hope this helps.

Interesting, Are you sure the EGR isn't covered under the engine warranty?

Yep, check your written warranty manual that FMC provided with your truck.

If you have a GVWR of 8501 or more then you are covered under the 5/50K emissions warranty, if not you were just lucky.

Yep- same just happened to me - they replaced my egr cooler, overflow tank, etc.. etc... was all listed as "warranty" work on sheet with a $100 warranty deductible due - I was also suprised so I called the service mgr - turns out, that's how the 100k mile engine warranty works - after the bumper to bumper 36k is up, you have a $100 deductible for any powertrain (engine only, not tranny) work up to the 100k mile...

ICP sensor and connector is covered under the powertrain warranty 5/100K, it is not part of the emissions system.

so if the ICP connector is covered under warranty, how do recuperate the $500 minus deductible that I just spent. I'm almost positive the dealership isn't going to give me money back, especially after I already discussed this with the service manager. what's my next step? thanks again,

The dealership should reimburse you for the ICP seonsor connector and labor to install it. The EGR valve cost and labor is coming out of your pocket. If the dealer does not respond get ahold of FMC cuctomer service and file a complaint.

Keep at 'em for reimbursement. The ICP is NOT an emissions item. It's 5yr- 100k, -100 deductible.

Good luck.

the surging and stalling is over......the exorcism has been completed!!!
I'll call the service manager again and discuss it with him and see if he's willing to listen to my side of the story. I'm going to let him know that I'll be taking it up with ford customer service.
