Yes, that is the chart I had seen before but no longer seems to be on their Goodyear website. Thanks, I'll store that one for future reference.

Ben, I have the table in the Super Duty FAQ I made years ago. It is anchored on top of the Super Duty forum. Click on Rolling Chassis. It is for E-rated tires.

ON EDIT: Here's the link. http://www.clubfte.com/users/monsta/SuperDutyFAQ.html

Here's the table:

Here is the inflation table for 265/75R16E tires. (May vary by brand a little.)

Weight/Pressure

1494 / 35

1708 / 40

1921 / 45

2134 / 50

2348 / 55

2561 / 60

2775 / 65

2988 / 70

3202 / 75

3415 / 80

An E-rated tire is "rated" to carry 1921lbs @ 45psi (the recommended cold psi for the front of my Excursion). And 2134lbs at 50psi (your listed front psi?). 55psi allows for 2348lbs.

Add 'em up and all four at 45/55 can support 8538. Certainly enough to handle the weight unloaded but not at MAX GVWR. Since most of us do not weigh each thing we put in our truck each time we do it, it is "safe" reasoning to put in 10psi more than recommended on the door jamb...wouldn't you agree?
Ken
Your reasoning sounds good and I have no qualms with adding 10psi to placard recommendations, I tend to do that myself. Where do you obtain the above rated weights? In the chart link given above by Shriner, on page 7 of the PDF, 265/75 R16's show 2470@50psi and 2625@55psi. 2times each added up equals 10,190lbs. For 285's 2755@50psi and 2925@55psi equals 11360lbs.

We posted at the same time. Capacities vary by brand.

A person could by by those number in the PDF, fo sure. However, for those who drive on the highway you must increase your cold inflation pressure by 10%.

Bottom line is, the inflation pressures recommended on the door jamb are a bit too low for many. Increasing 10-20% is safe and has positive impact on performance.

You answered my question before I asked it. There seems to be quite a difference between Ford and Goodyear's charts??

That chart is for the Firestone's Steeltex if I recall correctly.

I would expect that but if you notice most if not all brands come up with the same weights for a given rating at max press i.e. E rated-3415lbs at 80psi, D rated-3000lbs. at 65psi for 265's and 3305lbs for 285's at 65psi. Thes are the same as the limits given by Tirerack in their Specs Chartrs.

80 in the back is overkill for weight carrying purposes, but it sure does stiffen up the sidewall and eliminate sway.

I run the 295/75/16 BFG A/T KO's with 65 psi in all four corners. I drive about 75,000 miles a year and the last set of BFG's lasted over 110,000 miles. I always check the pressure when I fill up and also check the temp of the tires (just by feeling them) to make sure they are not over heating.
