HUH??
I'm pretty new to the whole EFI, computer controlled motor. Most of my cars and trucks have been older 1985 and older and I would really like some information on replacing the chip for better performance. What does it do? What are my options when choosing a chip? Gas mileage, more HP, over-all performance? How easy is it to change out? I'm assuming that I can do this work myself with much trouble. Any help would be great!
Thanks
Mike
A performance chip will:
Advance the timing for Premium fuel
Change the timing curve for performance.
Alter the air/fuel ratio.
Raise the rev limiter, usually about 400 rpm over stock.
Remove the speed limiter.
Raise the transmission fluid pressure by 20% for firmer shifts.
Normally, expect no mileage gains on a gas engine. You might gain 1 mpg, if so, it offsets the price of premium fuel. But, remember, these are"Performance Chips", not mileage chips. If anyone can guarantee you more hp and a lot more mileage, they would be millionaires if it were true.
The installation is easy. The chip plugs into your diagnostic port. We actually add a chip, there is none there.

I thought the chips replaced the factory chips and were not "add-on" pieces. What am I missing here?
