I'd stick with the stock one unless you have to change it - it does a fine job, and houses the breather element too. The only reason I changed my setup to the tiny aftermarket air cleaner is because when I changed my choke setup the old air cleaner housing wouldn't fit. I don't think switching ever to the aftermarket changed my MPG much - I still get 15-19.
BUTl85, The pics show a single barrel. A single barrel filter will fit a single barrel carb. In general I thought that bigger air cleaner=better airflow. Basic principle of blow with your lips tight in a little circle or with your mouth wide open. You can flow a larger amount of air faster with your mouth wide open. But you don't have to go back to stock. The stock air cleaner is a beast, and has two mounting brackets to support it outside of the single carb screw that you have holding your current air cleaner on. If you want it I've got one from when I converted the thing over to a 4 barrel. I think I've got all the brackets as well. Lemmie know if you want it and I'll see if I can find the brackets.
What brackets are you speaking of? My factory air cleaner only had the stud and wing nut to bolt it down to the carb and had no additional mounting brackets.
Ok, well for some reason this site won't let me post more than a 62k file, which is tiny. I'm trying other methods but for now you can check my gallery and see if you can squint hard enough to make something out. Man posting pics is frustrating.
