Hello all. I researched this topic and I've read numerous threads on the power window motor but have a few questions. My driver's side window is stuck in the up position. All other windows operate normally from the drivers side window switch. There's power at all the switches when activating the buttons up and down. Also, I can hear the relay clicking when I press the driver's side window switch. So I know it's not the switch. I am assuming that it's the motor but need to know how to test the motor to ensure that it is indeed bad before I buy a new one.
1. How should I go about testing the motor to determine if it's bad? If there's a thread that provides step by step guidance please post it.
2. Where can I buy a new window motor for a decent price. The dealer wants $150?
3. What 's the chance that the window regulator is bad?
It would be a hassle, but you can try hooking up the motor from one of you other windows, to see if it works in the drivers door. If it works you know you have a bad motor. $50-100 at Advance Auto Parts.
Last summer I had the same problem. Except my window was stuck open. A thread I read said to turn the car on, press the power button to close the window and then slam the door. It worked on the second try and the window motor has worked since. No guarantees this will work, but worth a try for no cost.
If it is indeed a motor, get one from NAPA. I have had problems with a Cardone replacement window motor for my Nissan and a Cardone rear window wiper motor for our 2000 Expedition. The NAPA motors are slightly more expensive and have a 1 year warranty, but they work. Window motors may be different for the left and right sides. Front to back on the same side, I am not sure.

Today my passenger side window was stuck open. I did what was suggested above and it worked.
This forum is great. This is the 3rd time, I have came here to find out how to fix my truck.
Just reading through the thread on the window. I got my window to go back up but that's it. Do you happen to know if that indicates a bad motor? Thanks!
Sounds like the motor is bad. I had the same thing happen, you can band aid it by beating the crap outta the door but in the end you'll have to replace it. Its an easy fix. Be careful not to break off the clips holding the power door "plate" to the armrest. Call Liberty Ford of Baltimore...410-655-2000 parts ext 5618 ask for Randy Stinchcomb. he will hook you up. Tell him Adam from the Misfits sent you over.
When the window sticks in the up/down position this indicates a bad motor. I ordered a new one from Rock Auto. (Best price I found for a new - not rebuilt motor) Already tried the rebuilt from Autozone. The trouble of taking the door panel off again is well worth the diff in the price of new vice rebuilt.
I am having this exact same problem with the driver side window on my 2000 Expedition. The window worked "intermittenly" for a while, then just stayed in the "up" position and won't move. Relay clicks, just like everyone else says. After reading all of the posts about this, it seems like it is definitely the motor. Can anyone point me in the direction of detailed instructions for taking the door panel off and replacing the motor? I'd really like to repair this myself, as the stealer, er I mean dealer will want more than I can afford to fix it....
2000 Expedition Drivers Power window stuck in up position
My driver's side power window wouldn't function unless the outside temperature was 75% or below. So for the past two years I have had use of it during the colder months, but not when it's warmer. The passengers side window was also stuck in the up position. After reading the solution on this forum, I went out, started the engine, held down on the window down button and slammed the door. It now works fine! Even the rear passenger window is working again. No more opening the door to use the drive thru at food places and the bank. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!! I may have to eventually replace the motor, but for now I couldn't be happier.
Front and rear same side motors are the same, pop your rear out and try it in front.
Dont pay attention to aftermarket repair manuals. You do NOT have to remove whole regulator assy. Reach inside and as i recall it is three machine bolts.
You might get away with cleaning up motor and replacing brushes if you have a "flat spot"
Like i did. Working fine 2 years now. 1/2 hour to do.
Good luck
