Wifey punched the unlock button on her key this morning and the drivers side would not open. Even with the key, the driver's side would not open!
All the other doors click open and lock as normal.
I crawled through the passenger seat and pulled the handle...the door opened. With the door open, I locked it and tried to open it. Nope. It "tries" to come up but appears "stuck". I Dubya Dee Fortied the heck out of it and same results.
I then noticed the outside door handle was very easy to pull up and down. Comparing it with the passenger side, it seems there is no "spring" to the mechanism.
Question.....What should I do to get this door back to where it will open without Wifey crawling over from the passenger side. (it don't bother me, but Wifey ain't even gonna put up with it)
Is this something a shade-tree can do or am I going to have to mortgage my single-wide.....again?
I am doing the same repair now. There are some decent posts about repair of this problem at the explorerforumdotcom. Also there are decent printable diagrams at autozonedotcom under heater actuator I think. Look around and print them out, they may be helpful. The latch is $40-65 at dealers in my area. I am looking for an aftermarket source. Good luck.
I just did a temp fix on my daughters truck , zip tie and rubber bands . It seems to be the rod going to the exterior handle , it has play in it that prevents everything from working properly . May be worn/ broken plastic on the handle . Haven't removed the handle to look , but will soon . Discovered this after taking the pax door apart . Sorry - no pics .
Looped a small zip tie with three small rubber bands and attached to a loop on the handle ( inside door ) then looped the rubber bands over the dropped rod ( this rod has a yellow clip on it - 99 Sport ) . Works fine and she's happy , no more crawlin over the console from the passenger seat .
