What kinda power are these cranks good up to? How about the rods?

Can't help you there ...never blew one up.

Look for the truck rods with the football shaped bolts, they are the strognest for factory rods.

football shaped bolts...? im confused. I thought all bolts were round. LOL. Any particular year these rods were prevalent? I just traded off an 87 short block I'll my own butt for doing that for sure anyway, but I have another truck motor, not as sure of the year tho. Are all truck rods good? or just certain ones?

I am sure hes talking about the head shape on the bolt for the rods. Like a HEX head for example is the shape of a HEX thats all.

Ditto on this. I'd also avoid the Windsor rods with the oiling hole bosses

I had some of those and they were truck rods.....or were they 460 rods a I can't remember.....but they had a little hump in them right where the rods starts up to the pin..Might have a pic somewhere I'll look.

Yea, that's what I was talking about , had a race-motor-builder friend advise me about this type rod. The drilled boss creates a weak spot according to him.

I had about 30 351W rods when I started to build one up. I picked though them using the best rods, they all had the boss but none were drilled...don't no why...but I ground it off when I did the stress relief thing and as far as I know it's still running.......

as for the cranks, on 350-400hp stock cars we run 6300-6700 rpms, 30 laps a week, about 20 weeks a year for 4 years and that is when the rotating assembly starts to get weak...i dont know if you can convert this to your truck, but it seems impressive to me so you probably dont have much to worry about crank wise.

well i'll probably shoot for a little more power than that but not near as much "longevity" no sustained rpms, it's a mud/sand truck. has a 390 that's gettin tired

Yeah I got this 4bbl windsor motor in my bog truck, I have been more than surprised by it's power and it's a stock motor. I had plans to run this motor till it died but it has given up yet. It leaks oil tranny fluid ps fluid and water but runs like a scalded dog.
