Brake update???
When dealer called and said truck was ready they mentioned they needed to order more parts. I was a little more confused than normal w/ this last comment so I asked what he was talking about. Now the rep from the dealership who called to tell me this had a very thick accent so I had difficulty understanding the response or so I thought. They had ordered a new bearing and new rotors & calipers The guy seemed to be avoiding answering the question as to why the new parts are needed- which I thought he either doesn't understand the question or he's hiding something. His position was that it will be covered under warranty so don't worry about it but I could talk to the technician if I wanted. Parts won't be in for a few days so they said I could use the truck in the meantime.
When I talked with the technician about the brakes he was evasive as well saying they were just "updated" parts and that when the vehicle is in for any service they'll check for updated parts and replace them????? He then said it's under warranty so don't worry about it.
I'm pleased the brakes are being replaced as they are already deeply scored and slightly warped and were not going to last much more than 10-15k. I bought the truck with 8k on it and found out late in the buying process the previous owner turned it in because it wasn't big enough to tow what he wanted(A red flag did go up when I heard that but felt the remaining warranty was sufficient to cover those concerns).
Has anyone heard of a brake update on these trucks? I checked the TSBs and didn't find anything related.
Also, the dealer is required to disclose, in writing, all of the services provided aren't they? Like if I were to take it in for one thing and they fix a recall item they'll have to let you know won't they?
Oh yeah once I got the run around on getting info on the brakes I asked what bearing they were replacing. Well that was a different tech who looked at that and he had gone home for the day- just like the service advisor and the service manager!!!!!
So I get new brakes replaced under warranty when I took it in for some electrical bug and a leaking seal(not near the brakes). Something isn't quite as it appears - the fact it is all under warranty allows me to be more patient.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tim

The dealer replaced the rear brakes and a bearing in the rear end- same rear end they replaced a couple months back. Still no real explanation as to why the brakes were replaced. In fact the service manager doesn't really recall replacing them??? Another guy at the counter remembers ordering parts but couldn't remember if it was front or rear. It was the rears- I looked when I got the truck back
A week later I'm back at the dealer with the wiper issue happening again- It happened as I parked at the dealership in front of the guy who ordered the brakes. They were too busy to look at it until the following Monday.
Saturday coming down off Donner summit rolling towards Truckee at about 80 mph I tapped the brakes and there was a distinct shudder at the steering wheel- pressing the brakes a little harder made it worse- felt just like warped rotors. I was barely applying pressure as I was just scrubbing 5-10 mph before a long downhill turn. Truck now has 29,000 miles on it and there was plenty of pad left when I checked around 27,000.
Monday I take the truck in for the wipers and mention the brakes. Later in the day the dealership calls and says they can't find the wiper problem and they have to order new front brakes which will arrive first thing in the morning.
So I bring my truck in for electrical issues and get new brakes.
Next day I call around 3:00, thinking the brakes should take 1.5 hours max and why haven't they called. Well it turns out wiper issue surfaced again when they moved the truck- It took them most of the day to figure out the parking brake was rubbing against a wiring harness that was unsecured and to fix that. So when they got to the brakes and realized the parts were wrong they didn't have time to get replacements that day. That's the version I was handed anyway. The parts guy, Roman- I've been there so many times they've stopped calling me sir and call be by my name- tells me he has ordered two sets of brakes and requested priority delivery.
Next day the brakes come in- 3 lefts and one right side- How did Roman know?
So needless to say I'm buying the extended warranty on this vehicle and I'm looking to trade it in for an 09(or 09.5) sometime next summer.
On the other hand if I keep taking it back to the dealer for one thing and they replace two I should have a completely replaced truck by 09.....
Oh yeah the window motor is coming loose again- thumps against something when going over certain bumps- which is what I took the truck in for the first time back in January or Feb.

As far as the window motor...take your rig back to the dealer and tell them something is wrong with the trans and see if they fix the window motor
