Well this truck as been in MI and MN its whole life and the only place that there is rust is INSIDE the stupid gas tank. grrrrrr. So, here it goes:
1979 F250 460 engine 17,800 orginal miles 2WD 3 speed auto 2 gas tanks
Is there anything special I need to know as to how to drop the gas tanks off the truck? I am just going to replace them with new ones from Ford. They quoted me $125 each tank, anything sound fishy there? Seems like a decent price to me. Who would have thought a truck with only that many miles would be as big of a head ache as it is. (i.e spun bearing, replaced fuel pump, rebuilt carb, replaced thermostat)
If your sending units are flakey nows the time. I would at least put new floats and screens on them at minimum while they're out. You won't want to do this job twice.

Now that you mention it, one of the tanks is a little ***** with registering the correct amount of gas. Sometimes it likes to stay at around 1/2 tank weather it is full or empty.
