No, air in the fuel line will not prevent the engine from cranking over. I'd guess the clunk you are hearing is the starter relay...but usually I hear that described as a click. Try turning your headlights on and have someone watch your lights when you try to start the truck. If they dim considerably it would indicate a battery problem or a connection problem. Be sure the starter to relay cable is clean and tight. Was the truck running alright the last time you shut it off?
Nope. Check relay and connections at the starter. Maybe turn the crank some via the nut on the balancer and see if it will engage.
CAUTION!!!!! I just reread this. Do not attempt to start the truck while turning the crank with a socket. I hate to say this as it appears to be common sense but I would sure hate to see someone get hurt. Sorry.
your starter could possibly hanging up try having someone hold the key to crank and you crawl under the truck and tap on the starter body with a hammer this will sometimes free the starter up and let it spin.

Mine just did this to me this week. Cleaned up the battery terminals (for the 2nd time in 2 weeks) and put some terminal grease on them and really tightened them up. and bang fired right up. But when mine was doing this my dash lights where low on power and very dim including the WTS light.

I think your point was; turn the crank with the socket. Get the socket off the crank. Get out from under the truck. Then attempt to start the truck.
Well, got it towed to the dealer. Turns out there was a short under the vavle cover, and a fire which fried the #8 injector, which leaked fuel into the cylinder, filling it completely. Would not crank due to hydraulic lock.
Looks like about $1500 to fix. 3 wiring harnesses, new injector and labour.
Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions.
BTW, I could not turn it with a wrench, of course. And I knew eneough not to leave the wrench on while cranking, not that it would have cranked anyway,LOL.
So Glad to hear you got the problem fixed. Lucky that the fire didn't catch much else on fire, with all that open fuel and the vented crankcase gasses. Whooewww count your blessings. That's expensive for what you're getting, new injector and seals for $150, the valve cover gasket and harness for $100. Labor a few hundred... Wow
