428 cobra jet

i have a 428 cobra-jet in my truck.......i was wondering how much this engine ls worth....i know its a rare engine and just want to see if i paid a good price for it.....can any one help?

Well if it is a true CJ with original heads, intake carb, etc...figure $3500-5000+ depending on the condition and date codes. You can check this site. www.428cobrajet.com click on component ID and check your numbers and date codes vs whats on the site. The C8OE-6090-N heads and many other CJ parts were also sold as over the counter parts thru the early 70's. So even if the heads have the C8OE-N casting number you need to verify the date codes. Guys restoring R and Q code cars will pay dearly for good original parts. Service parts are still desireable but don't bring the money the original parts do. So that factors into the price also.

well thanks for the info....also i know cobra jets have a C J welded on the back of the block.....mine has a C X welded on the bak....does that mean anything different?

well now its in my 75 ford F-100 4X4.....but im thinking about building a cobra kit car for that engine

The CJ blocks just have a sandscratch C on the back. The CX blocks are industrial blocks and most I've seen have a 71-72 date code. Nothing wrong with these and the block and internals are exactly the same as the CJ. IUB cranks, big bolt rods and std cast CJ slugs just a later date code.

Cobra kits cars are fun. I had a Factory Five.
