My heater-core is leaking, the compressor & condensor are missing, and I've got loose hoses hanging around. And that big black box takes up a lot of space.
I've got (I think) a complete non-AC heat-system from a '79 F-series. It was floor/defrost only, and the Bronco has dash-vents.
Other than a piece of sheet-metal to patch the big hole I assume is hiding behind that big black box, do I have enough to eliminate the remains of the AC w/o it being a big PITA? Is there much modification involved?
You will need to remove air con box. I cant remember if the non air box will cover hole. You will /May have to replace inside box . But see if you can use as is. All there was was a blender door and defrost ,heat control (believe the air con was in out side box. ) Maybe you can leave all ducts alone. take a look and see. I know I didn't help you but if you have to replace inner stuff just don't worry about vents.
Just saw the post. Believe it or not I have never had a non A/C truck. I would bet if you pull all the A/C stuff off the firewall you may have to make a plate for it but the rest of the stuff you should have. The dash vents were only used on an A/C truck or the Hi-Lo heater option. More than likely you will not be able to reuse the upper dash vents.
OK, I took it apart today. After doing further research, I saw that I would lose the dash vents if I removed the box, and I kinda like having dash vents.
Once I got to the heatercore, the box was a snap. Especially considering the acrobatics that look to be needed to change the plug (#8?) on that side. I left it off for now -- I've got new valvecovers to put on and I want to change the plugs, but when that's done, it'll be going back on. Without the evaporator.
