I was under my truck today, spraying undercoating, when I noticed the oil pan was rusting, I have heard the motor needs to be pulled to replace the oil pan, that thought sickens me, but is there a cheaper way? can the pan have a spot weld with a patch on it?
If it is dripping you can weld it up if you are very careful. Treat it like you are welding on a barrel, using a vacuum cleaner attached to the filler neck and the drain plug removed to give it a LOT of air exchange.
If it's really bad as a last resort it would be worth the price of a new oil pan to just cut the bottom off of both of them and weld up the new one to the old one.
If that doesn't work, (I don't see why not) then, yeah, pull the engine.
I have the same issue, very bad rusting all over corners of the pan. I bought one of those convert rust to primer conversion type kits that are supposed to help. Have not put it on yet though....
