I am probably gonna wax my beast over 4th of July weekend. I am not quite sure what wax to use, so I thought I would ask the experts. It sits outside in the Southern NM sun all day, so I want something that is tough, but hopefully fairly easy to apply and remove.
Also, what else do you guys use to keep your trucks looking purdy? I wash mine about once every couple weeks or so....I use the armorall wheel cleaner, and the Mr. Clean Autodry Car Wash on the exterior. On the interior, I vaccuum it and use Armor All on the dash and door panels. What other "detailing" products do you guys do, I wanna make sure my truck stays looking good for many years! Thanks!
I use Adams products. Not as hot as down there in NM.But I use it down here in SoCal in 100 deg temps with easy on off applications.
For the inside I use a damp cloth.I personally don tlike any conditioners on the interior plastics.I use a sun shade every time to keep the UVs off the interior.Tinted windows are 20%.
I've had good luck with products from Mother's and Maguiar's. I prefer the spray waxes to paste(quicker). I just today tried the new spray nano-wax from Eagle-1. It didn't quite deliver the depth of a traditional wax IMO. One thing I use in the interior is a Swiffer floor cleaning cloth, they are great for a quick dusting. I was told a few years ago by a detailer to ONLY use Formula 2001 protectant, and Black Magic Tire Wet. I've stuck with those, and have had good results. He apparently did not like Armor-all, at all. I hand wash with a sponge, and towel dry.

I use a Tire black made by Meguiars, I can't remember the name, but it is in a tall, aerosol type can, it works pretty good. Only problem is that it collects dust. I'm sure most will, but does the Black Magic do that?

Not that I've noticed specifically, but with all the wind here everything gets coated with dust.
I have used several waxes over the years. One hasn't stood out above the rest for me. I tried the new Ice wax, by Turtle wax, I believe, goes on very easy and comes off easy. I didn't care for it much tough. With most waxes you can buff out water spots and small scratches, Ice you can't do that.
For the interior I use Pledge lemon scent. Its not as greasy as Armour All. Makes everything look nice and smell lemony fresh. That is a trick from my old boss using pledge in the all the Ambulances.
Armor All is only good for tires. Quit using it inside ASAP. I learned when my 67 F100, original dash, cracked to pieces after 34 trouble free years.
Your dash in your truck cracked after 34 years and you think it was caused by the Armor All? Why do you think that? I have used Armor All in 3 trucks and a Mustang, and have never had any problem with any of them cracking...the first truck had sat outside in the sun every day of its life for 15 yrs.
As far as using it on tires, I used to, but found it collected dust like a magnet, or at least it did on my tires. That is why I switched.
I used to use Maguiar's Gold Class wax but recently switched to Maguiar's NXT wax. I was impressed with the NXT and will be sticking with it. Easy on, Easy off, and no residue.
I used to use Armor All on the tires but switched to Maguiar's Hot Shine tire spray. The Hot Shine product lasts much longer than Armor All. Effect of Armor All only lasted a week at best while the effect of Hot Shine lasts three to four weeks. I like the Hot Shine.
As far as interior, I user Stoner Invisible Glass for the windows. I use a damp cloth for the dash every once in a while but mainly use a California Duster to remove any dust buildup on the dash, console, doors. I use Maguiar's Leather Care on the seats about every 6 months.
I agree with the ICE Turtle wax product comment above. It does not buff our grime and spots like others, but if you already have a nice clean truck and want to put a shine on it WITHOUT all your black molding getting white residue on it, it is what way to go! I did my boat with it too. I think it is a twice a year application though, does not seem to last the entire year like advertised, but it is easy to apply.
I like to use mothers wax. I apply it twice a week. And in the winter i dont put it on at all. Once summer comes and i wash the truck, you can easly tell that it is still on there as the water beads off fast. Also mothers really makes your truck sparkle in the sun. the only thing i don't like is that you can let it go near plastic. If you do it will leave white residue. If you get the wax on the plastic then mothers has another product called back to black and it will get that wax residue off and it also shines the plastic on your mirriors like no other.
For my 2005 SD I use Turtle wax ICE wash, Mothers wax, Eagle One Wheel cleaner, Black Magic tire wet, Stoner Invisible Glass for the windows, and Mothers Protectant for the inside.
