Has anyone had any experience with helix plates that are installed in between the throttle body and the air intake duct? A friend of mine had one put on his '93 302(F-150). He also put on a K&N filter system and has a 3inch exhaust with no mufflers behind the cats. He sais he's breaking 20MPG on the highway. My question is would any of this get a '90's F-250 or 350 crewcab 4X4 5spd better MPG's (hopefully 18mpg or better)? The cost of a diesel is not realistic for me when I look for a newer truck. Any information or links to find it would be great. Thanks!
I am afraid that you will have quite a bit of a problem getting 18 mpg in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck with a gas engine. Powerstrokes will get that mileage, but, most F150's will barely get that kind of mileage. The best mileage that I have seen is in a 2000 F250 4X4 with a 5.4L engine. K&N filter, dual exhaust, superchip, 15mpg hwy.

Well, these spacer plates have gotten mixed reviews from everyone. Usually people say they trade some bottom end for some top-end. Not necessarily what you want in a truck! Check out ##### site, there are several discussions on this topic. (I tried to post the link, but couldn't figure it out here, sorry if you aren't supposed to do that!) Feel free to e-mail me for the link!
Merlin: Expect very little, if anything from the Helix Plates. The theory is to swirl the incoming air into the throttle body, thus creating a better mix of air and fuel. In 10 years of racing, we never found any of the intake devices, as such, of any benefit. If this device was a benefit to improve performance and mileage, Ford would have built this into their intakes long ago. Ford is always struggling to meet the EPA requirements on mileage. This fix, if itreally worked, would be a very inexpensive fix for Ford.
Thanks

Merlin; Reality really works backward from what it should. The less horsepower you have originally, the less a chip will add, kinda backwards. The chip will ad 10% more horsepower at the cost of using premium fuel. Only you can decide if that small amount of added power is worth the cost.
Thanks
