Straining the truck?

I have been towing around a 4x8 utility trailer filled with wood lately, and when i take off, the truck does not shift until 4000 rpm, even without standing on the gas. my concern is with the engine and trans. is this bad for it? total trailer weight is about 2500 lbs. it is a 90 2.9 auto 4x4.

Sounds like a tranny issue.

I agree...tranny sounds like it's not doing so hot.

4K RPM isn't gonna kill the 2.9L, even if done regularly, but it is going to kill your gas mileage. The 2.9L isn't a powerhouse to begin with, but a 2500 lbs trailer should hardly be worthy of shifting that late.

A Tranny cooler would help, small investment and easy to install. Also a Tranny flush would be nice.

I've got an extra tranny cooler laying around my garage. It's not Ranger specific, but it's yours if you want it jake47, just PM me.
