I recently adjusted my steering box with good results. Mine had 200,000+ on it and I loosened the nylock nut on the top of the box and turned the allen head screw in just over a half a turn. Then I tightened the nylock. I'd try a quarter turn with your mileage and see what happens. I am hesitant to screw it in further since I think you can get it to bind at some point. Plus, the half turn fixed 90% of the play in my steering.

I've had a mild wander for quite some time and if adjusting an allen head screw will fix it then I'm all for it... but....

what does the screw do? And how do I know how far to turn it?

LOL, ive gotten pulled over before in my truck for driving like drunk. Its sometimes gets hard to control, but i think my steering box is FUBAR'd, so that might be why. I got used to it so its been doing better, and i found out i had a bad ball joint. My steering is so bad that a bad ball joint made no difference!
