1999 PSD, 7.3L. Had it about a year. Has 130K Km. (80K miles) Rumour is it was parked for a couple of years before I bought it.
Has been smoking excessively for a couple of months, but only occasionally, on start up or when cold. When I leave home, I idle only a few seconds, then drive. I go about 2 km, mostly downhill to the highway. Couple of weeks ago, it was smoking at the hwy junction and hesitated when I accellerated onto the hwy. Smoke seems to be okay when driving, maybe just harder to see as it is spread over a larger area??
Yesterday, I hauled our new (to us) camper trailer about 400km from dealer to home. It made a knocking sound about 30 km from home, so I pulled over, idled 2 minutes, then shut down and had a look. No oil leaking evident. Oil level okay. I started up and saw moderate smoke. Got home okay.
Today I started it up and huge clouds of dark grey smoke and a slight ticking noise! I shut down, and noted oil level was below add mark. I added 2L. Then drove a couple of hundred yards to where I usually park. (lots of smoke, ticking noise) /Checked the oil again; too full! I guess it was more the slope the truck was parked on. So I drained out the 2L. and oil level seems okay. I don't think it is using oil, but not 100% sure.
What to do? I have an appointment with Ford dealer thurs. Should I drive it in (20Km.) or have it towed?
Any idea what is going on? Injector o-rings? Any ideas apprecieated. Thanks [img][/img]
Unburnt fuel vapor is white smoke. Blue smoke is oil, and black smoke is semi-burnt excessive fuel in the condition of not enough air to burn the fuel. So what color is the smoke?

Hmm, im gonna give my 2 cents here. When my truck was having gelled fuel, and i was loosing pressure, it would blow white smoke, and knock really loud. Might want to see if you have enough fuel pressure, im talking LOW fuel pressure<10psi and it would start to get bad. Sounded like an old tractor.
