This problem is getting more frequent and I am starting to get a little more concerned. About once a day or every couple days while driving in town, sitting at a light, pulling in the driveway, or going down the interstate it will just stop running. The pause will last anywhere to split second while going down the road or just die if at idle. Yesterday while driving down the interstate it actually shut off for a couple seconds and started back up again. Once it did it at a stop light and just died all together. I turned the key and it fired back up like nothing was wrong.
Last fall, I replaced the wires, plugs, cap, rotor, and coil. I made sure all the wires were laid out and spaced the way they were supposed to be. It seems to run fine usually just lacking a little power (190,000 miles) normally. And the engine light never comes.
When my last '89 did that, I had corrosion at the fuel pump relay. Was getting intermittent connection until it was too green. Cleaned the connections and changed a wire, prob went away.
Yeah, my cousins ranger had a problem with the relay also but it didnt die n start back up it just started rough. So if this is happening I suggest you go through all relays - fuses - grounds and clean them if needed like TheSharkster did.
Should be in a control box under the hood with a bunch of other relays and fuses. The cover for the box should have a schematic on the inside of which relay & fuses are which.

This is exactly what just happened to my 1990, the motor quit a few times driving down the road and would fire right back up, but the wire completely broke off eventually, stranding me in the middle of the road. Luckily a co worker was passing by and towed me out of traffic. The fix was about as simple as it gets, crimp on a new connector and plug it in. The relay is under the hood on the drivers side inner fender near the EEC test connector.
I have noticed something today. I have a fuel leak. I have been smelling gas for a little while but only noticed it when I filled up. I didn't think much of it. But after noticing a puddle of gas today I got to thinking. I don't know if it is coinsidence or not. But the same time I started getting that stalling, I started noticing the gas smell. I am getting a leak from my tank (I think). Would these two problems be related or not?
Its a possibility because if the fuel is going to another place and not to the engine you will have a stall or less power & it could be suckin air from this leak also n cause the stall.
