Ok..I know most won't remember, but about 2 months ago, I was about to check myself into an insane asylum because of a squeak/chirp. I eventually found the culprit. It was the rotor and the cap of the distributor. I replaced the rotor, and both components to the cap. So it's all new...
Yesterday, the squeak came back...It's the same exact squeak/squeal. You can place your hand on the cap and actually changed the tone of the noise. But, it's not a vibration noise, because the squeak is based on the rotation of the rotor tapping the points inside the cap.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Could my distributor shaft not be receiving lubrication down inside?
I can't tollerate this again, I'd appreciate of you smart guys to give me a hand...Thanks'
Ron
what kind of cap and roter did you get? dont buy the cheep Chinese ones like they have at auto zone they wont work for long or at all. get motercraft if you can.
the sound you are hearing is the roter coming in contact with the terminals in the cap. some times it will brake the roter or the cap.

Thats exactly what it is, but why? I'm getting concerned that the shaft on the distributor shaft itself is going bad...Is that possible..
BTW the truck runs great.
It could be. If it has any play in it then it is bad and needs to be replaced. but usually when I here that noise it is cheep Chinese components and a good set of Motercraft will fix it.

Performance Distributors' 5.0 Duraspark Distributor has no lateral shaft movement and spins freely. This is due to the Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing used during assembly. This is not utilized in stock replacement Durasparks.
