Door Sag

My drivers door sags a little. The botton of the frame is scratched from the door hitting it when it closes from the sag. I cant tell why its doin it, anyone else have this problem or ever dealt with?

Either your hinges are worn or simply need to be adjusted. If move the door up and down when the door is open your hinges are worn out most likely. If the door does not move up and down, then you need to adjust the door hinges.

Yeah, before I posted I opened the door and was able to move it up and down.

Well, I researched the problem here and from what I have read, an adjustment will only work for a few months or so, and if the door sags enough to rub the bottom of the rocker panel then forget about the adjusting.

So, since the bottom of the door frame is knicked from the door I'll just go to Ford with some lube and my underware turned the other way for easy access and get rap..errr, I mean buy a hinge.

So I bought a (1) hinge from Ford yesterday. I went to the Ford dealership on Route 1 in Laurel Maryland..........$110.00. Good thing I lubed up!

I feel giddy and go across the parking lot to the body shop and ask how much to slap the thing in and they offer a reach-around, with the price of $350.00! They said it was a 3 to 3.5 hour job. I figure it would take me 5 hours, since I never did it before. So I'll give it a shot later.

No, I don't know anything about that, and I'm not a body person. It shouldnt be too difficult for me, just time consuming, right? What's that going to cost & stuff?

Old time mechanic fix for door sag: Place a 5 foot 2x4 >> one end on LEVEL ground, the other end on the door sill, about midway back from the hinge post.

Gently push the door up the 2x4 a couple of inches. Tighten the hinge bolts. Do NOT loosen the hinge bolts before hand.

If you are going to replace the hinge , you need to remove the door..I would scribe around the old hinge where it meets the a pillar to give yourself a place to start with the new one ....

Next time you need to buy something like a hinge check with www.lmctruck.com they might be cheaper than the Ford dealership. I hae found that most suppliers are cheaper than a dealership.

I requested a LMC catalog for my truck and they sent me one for my blazer instead , then I read that when doing a hinge replacement to get the part from Ford because the after market stuff just leads to problems again. But next time I will consider LMC, and thats on the level!
