I recently bought a front skid plate on eBay. It is stainless steel and highly polished. The one I bought was advertised as OEM part which would fit Rangers 98 & up. Later I saw one on a 2007 Ranger and it was painted black. Does anyone know if Ford supplied a brightly polished front skid plate or are they supposed to be painted? Is the current production front skid plate for 2007 FX4 Level 2 SS or some other material like aluminum or plain steel?
Have a great day! Ed
Thanks to both of you for responding. Before buying my 2001 Ranger, I looked at many with offroad suspension and none had a front skid plate. After all I have seen and read plus hearing from you guys, my conclusions are that Ford dropped the front skid plate in 2001. Prior to that time, the skid plate was polished SS. The skid plate was resurrected sometime after 2001 and appears to have been included on all FX4 Level II off road packages. That skid plate was made of plain steel and painted black. My guess is that it was also thicker. Does this sound right to you? Does anybody else draw any different conclusions?
MLDMKR1960-----Has your skid plate experienced any denting? I have heard owners of earlier models complain about having to remove dents. One person said he had to straighten it at every oil change.
Thanks...Ed
Yeah, I bought my 99 with the offroad package and it had a black one. I went back to the dealer for servive and the 2000's had the nice shinny ones, I thought to myself, "that sucks"!!!!!!!!!
