1965 Mustang V8 engine codes, 5th digit in VIN.
A = 289 4V / C = 289 2V / F = 260 2V / K = 289 HiPo
The 260's were only installed prior to 8/23/64.
Mustang was first shown to the public on 4/17/1964 at the NY World's Fair.
Mustang went on sale nationwide on 4/23/1964, as a 1965 model. MSRP for a stick/six = $2365.00.
Mustang buffs refer to cars made prior to 8/23/64 as 1964 1/2 models. But Ford never called them that.
