Street chip

I recently installed a Street chip by ADS (superchip) and my check engine lite blinks 3 time a sec as soon as I turn on the key it will not stop blinking. I run the unit any way and the chip preforms as advertised, I am very happy with the preformance enhancments. I have put about 100 miles on it and the chip goes right on blinking as I drive. My computer is under the seat inside and is not subject to any weather and it is installed correctly, hence the fact I am using the vehicle and noticed right off the changes... Any suggestions

The problem could be one of several things:

1. contacts aren't cleaned completely.
2. wrong code for the chip (occasionally, a vehicle will run with the wrong code)
3. your computer was reflashed prior to the chip installed and not labeled
4. there's a problem with the chip itself

Note that an "ADS Super chip" is NOT a "Superchip". ADS went out of business. Their name was deliberately confusing. There may still be some companies selling the ADS Super chip at rock bottom prices ---- I'd be very careful dealing with anyone selling them.

The newest ADS chips I know of are 1995 for Fords and 1998 for GM. I'd contact the company that sold you the chip, ask them to fix the problem and ask for your money back it they do not.

Thanks Ken for the info. I purchased the chip thru Summit Racing and I don't expect that they can fix or repalce the chip because it was a close out, the cost is not a problem. I also have a question which would pertain to all of these chips on the market, after you receive the product and open the box you notice in fine print that the product is not intended for steet use and is to be used with out a cataletic converter. Have you any info on this? Will it run to hot or burn up you converter?

Both Diablo and Superchips are street legal. ADS chips were el-cheapo knock-offs and I'm not surprised that they went out of business. I suspect the reason why they aren't street legal is because they enrich the fuel mixture too much. Too rich of a mixture can hurt your converter.

I guess for what you paid for it, it was worth a shot? If it worked, you got a deal, if not, not much lost. Unless I missed it on the site, the ADS Superchip is generic, ie, not programmed to a specific computer box code. While that insures it works with more vehicles, you won't get specific tuning.

Diablo has a new chip called a 4-bank, available for the diesels only right now, that offers the best of both worlds: its specific to a computer box code, but will work in almost all cases if the box has been reflashed by a dealer. Pretty cool, IHMO.

Let me know how the ADS works out for you... I hope it does.

On a final note, I also believe the other big names in the chip business are street legal. I know Hypertech makes a good product but its more expensive and used for different applications than the Diablo and Superchip.
