I was thinking about getting a chip for my Expedition and I was wondering about which one to buy and how much HP and TQ to expect. I have the 5.4L and a 3.31 Rear axle ratio (if that helps). Also, I have heard rumor that it can actually increase your gas mileage (which isn't all that important but is definitly a plus) and improves shifting. Also I have heard about the raising of the rev limiter with the chips also. Do you know how high a 5.4L will rev without problems? The fuel cut off is about 4600 RPM right now....5000RPM or more? I really like the SUV but just would like a little more power. :-)
And one more thing. I have heard about a "flip chip" for some models but have not been able to find any info on the superchips web page about it. It gives a model # but no price or HP/TQ gains. Just curious. Thanks for your help.

For the 5.4 the gain on either chip is 25HP. Customer feedback shows that the Superchip has a firmer shift than the Diablo, some people prefer that, some don't. The Diablo module fits entirely in the ECU whereas the Superchip module is on the outside.
If the RPM limiter can be located in the stock program they are removed. However, both the Superchips and Diablo warranty information states that you are responsible for not exceeding the factory limits.
The flip chip is listed in our Diablo listing. Unless you're running a special application, I wouldn't recommend it. Basically, it allows you to have two programs of your choice. In your case, running a stock engine, there would be no benefit. Some people get a high/low octane combination with a flip chip but it would take a lot of miles to break even on the fuel cost savings.

Thanks for the info Ken. I really appriciate it. A couple more questions: Do you know how much Horsepower and Torque a 1997 Expedition with a 5.4L has from the factory? Do the dyno results give 25 HP to the rear wheels? Does Ford measure there horsepower and torque this way?
