Tire "Slime"?

Has anyone here ever used "Slime"? It's that green or yellow stuff that put into tires that will supposedly seal punctures.

ive use it with mixed results. seems like it works better in atv type tires then auto tires.the smaller the leak the better it works. ive used pane old fix-a-flat with better luck in car/truck tires. aslo NEVER use use fix-a-flat or slime in ANY type of semi tire causes to much heat and they blow. over all its just best to have tires patched.if a bead leak is the problem break it down and smeer a generous amount of atf around the bead and air back up.the atf will let the rubber bead reform around the rim and seal

I find it works best in lawn mower or bicycle tires. In an automotive application I've heard where it can throw the tire out of balance at high speeds.

I used slime for years in my tractor and wheelbarrow etc.

A BAD side effect that I discovered is the the slime causes extreme RUST and sometimes it leaves the inside of the rim really yucky. No fun if you ever need to work on the tire or rim.

Slime seems to work best on tiny tread punctures like a small nail or a thorn. Slime does not work on sidewalls since there usually isn't enough to reach the sidewalls.

Sometimes slime doesn't permanently fix a leak, even small ones. It just oozes out a drop at a time whenever you use the tire.

I do not use slime any more because of the rust issue. Guess the traditional patch and plug is the best permanent fix. I would rather use one of those seal and air in a cans than slime due to the huge mess slime makes.

Just my experience,

Jim Henderson

That is why I don't use it. I've heard horror stories of rusted out rims after using it.

I've used it in a wheel barrow and a lawn cart that I have. I put tubes in then slimed them. Still holding up after at least three years. I just slimed my little JD lawn tractor front tire but didn't put a tube in. I wasn't aware of the rusting problem. Dang...
