Altered Heater Hoses

Here is a link to a vehicle selling on Ebay. I tried to post just the pic but having trouble for some reason with FTE letting photos on.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1977-...em130125786695

I noticed he re-routed the heater hoses and the one going from the block right to the water pump.

Aside from having no cab heat if he needs it, I was wondering what are the implications of this move? Pros and Cons?

I should note that I live in Louisiana and heat is more of a concern than cold.

Mine is the same setup. My heater core was leaking all over the floor, so I re-routed it. I'm running a 400 with a 4 core from a truck with a 460, and my sender never makes it past the 'N' in 'Normal' (well, it did in 40 minutes of standstill traffic in 100 degree weather, it made it to the first 'o'). I've have no cooling problems whatsoever, but I carry an extra piece of heater hose in my toolbox, just in case (more worried about pressure than heat).

I'd be more concerned about the passenger valve cover not having a hose, or at least a breather on it. That's going to suck up a lot of dirt, the way it is (a cheap-o $5 breather is worth it)

EDIT: I'm also getting an Iron Cross overload looking at the pics of that truck...

There are no pros or cons of doing that.

The only reason you'd do it (bypassing the heater hose...) is because the heater core was leaking.

He looped both ends to keep the fluid inside on the block in an infinity loop so it goes back without losing coolant and to keep the core from spilling any more coolant.

Well I have to wonder why in the heck he put a bypass hose on the heater core? Does he really think there is pressure in it? Bypassing the heater won't cause any harm some trucks came with no heater from factory.

it will probally cost you a heater core once you get it so you will have heat again.

I would probably loop the heater core too, in case it was a small enough leak to be soldered, rather than replace it. Why fill it with dirt if not neccessary?

I wonder why guy didn't just get a dual in/dual out muffler for the truck instead of that Y-pipe. Cool looking truck.

Well the obvious reason the heater core was sealed with a bypass hose was to keep those pesky little heat-ions from escaping. You see, what we have here is the real culprit for Global Climate Change. If Congress had mandated that all unused heater cores were sealed with that bypass hose 50+ years ago, we would be at least 10 degrees cooler than we are now. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!! Use those bypass hoses!

Now, if you will all kindly excuse me, the nice lady in the white dress has brought my juice and pills. Ahhhh...sleepytime....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
