I have a 93 F150 4.9, K&N, cat back, and MSD. Was wondering if there is a chip for my engine, and if so what gains could I expect. Would it have to be custom burned or not. What brand? Anyone have any real world experiance with a chip on this motor. Thanks for any info.
No, a custom chip would not be needed. We can code a chip for your application BUT.....
There's a small chance it won't work out, in my experience. That shouldn't be a problem because we gladly refund your shipping and purchase price if it doesn't work out.
In the last two months I've coded 6 1993 F150's and 2 of them did not respond to chipping. I don't know why, perhaps the dealer reflashed without labeling it... sometimes a code reflash is close enough that it runs with an improper chip but you just don't get results. Or if something else on the truck was keeping the timing backed there'll be a shift improvement but no performance improvement. This is more likely to happen with an older truck.
We can give it a shot, you have nothing to lose but a little time.
Ken thanks for the honest info. Does the chip have any interaction with the speed density set up on my 4.9? I have read some posts about performance upgrade limitations with a speed density system. Does the chip just interact with the timing? I have a manual transmission, so no interaction there. I have just put on a MSD setup, so I want to evaluate this mod for a while before doing anything else. But as you said I have nothing to lose by trying it, because of your full refund policy. Thanks again!
The problem is not interaction with speed density. The problem is that because of what speed density measures, it cannot take advantage of cams and any intake changes. The chip reads the speed density tables and modifies the fuel injection and timing based on the tables. One of the best ways to get some good gains is to change your truck over to mass air and then make modifications.
I believe I read on the inline 6 message board that mass air conversion was not avalible on the 4.9. If you know differant let me know the particulars. Anyway if not the chip should still in theory give me some performance gains, right?
