Broken Bumper mount/other rust

My left rear bumper mount on the frame broke due to rust. There only seems to be severe rust around my rear leaf mounts and farther behind. Must of the other rust on my frame seems to be surface rust. What should I do to fix the bumper mount? Should I put a piece of metal to renforce the frame on the inside and have the correct bolt mounts for the bumper in the rear? It also seems to have just about broken/rotted away the piece that connect the rear cross section. What should I do about that? A little bit of my rear bed supports appear to have rotted away as well, what should I do about that?

There are also little spots behind my front wheel wells comming out and inside my passenger door area. Is there anyway to stop these from comming out anymore? Should I sand it down to remove the rust ands repaint it or will it look like terrible? I repaired the corner of the driver's corner door area and used some stuff that supposedly stops rust when you spray it on there. It turns it black and you just paint over it. The black, if it runs, won't come off the paint, so I'm a little owrried to try it on the outside. Any suggestions?

My front leaf spring hanger also rotted out so I have to replace that. Anyone know of a place that sells them for less than $40? Other side was replaced not too long ago.
The truck looks great, the spots are just starting to come out and I dopn't want it to turn into a rust bucket. I plan on painting the frame sometime soon as well.
Thanks

Hey Kalishnikov, (I like AKs too!)
I don't think we have met before so Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts!

I have all the frame parts for the back of your truck in good solid condition. (Bumper brackets, spring hangers, etc.) I can even cut the back 2 feet or so off the main frame rails if you needed to weld them up? Just weld on these whole new rear sections!

You mention a front leaf spring hanger. Is that the front axle or the front position/hanger on your rear axle's leaf springs? I have the front position on the rear axle's leaf spring but not the the front axle leaf hanger.

I don't have much input on the body work side of your questions. I don't have much experiance fighting the body rust down here.

But I sure can help out with those frame component replacements. Private message me or email me from my web site if you like, and I can give you some prices with shipping. Just let me know your zip code in the message.

Thanks, Mike.

I second the replacing the back half! Pull the bed ,weld it up and do it right the first time.As far as the body , I sandblast , fiberglass and repaint. Less warping than weld in patch panels. Pat

Welcome to FTE from PA rust belt

Basically yank bed then cut where solid and weld up. As for body The rocker panel they sell a over top one that covers it up. Once it start rusting at seams other than spraying oils every where till it seeps out you will have to take apart clean up and weld in parts . But your isn't bad. The bed you can get whole sides , large wheel arch panel,or wheel arch ,also lower bed parts. But if you frame is that bad I bet you bed supports are bad.
Another bed may be cheaper because not having to weld in and smooth and paint panels . I 'd check rad support also.

Mine was body was bad on old truck and frame good. I found a rust free southern truck with bad motor for $1200 and put my parts on it. I did this because a good bed alone was $1000 in my area w/no tailgate
Good luck LOST

The body isn't bad as of yet. It's just starting to show signs. It's th best condition I've found any of the truck up here in MA to be and I'd like to keep it that way. The bed is rust free except a small part of the rear supports.

I completely forgot to mention I have a 1994 F150.
Thanks

Yeah, your F150 doesnt look too bad at all, its certainly in a less advanced stage of decomposition then my 93 Mass Rig. I had the whole right side rear bumper mount break this winter while driving. Pulling a Ford ranger with a blown Tranny out of a massive snowbank was the last staw for that mount. So we made up our own mounts out of 3" channel iron and put the bumper back on.

Looking at the bumper you can see right threw it where the license plate is in the middle, so the whole bumper is shot anyway. Theres a difference between rust and rot...Ive definatly got the rot syndrome going on. It all started when my father decided to store it on a grass surface and hardly use it for a few years...yeah it went to rust real quick combined with the salty roads up here in the winter.

Speaking of rotted out parts, all my bed cross-supports are junk...Im thinking about making my own for these too...unless you can find them cheap? Any sugguestions?

If this truck wasnt in the rust belt or properly protected, there would seriouly be no problems with it and about 95% of the failures wouldnt have occured.

My next truck I am going to protect the hell out of the undercarriage, even if its a 2008 F150, that will be the first thing Im gonna do. Its sad to see these nice trucks get eaten alive.

I would remove the chomed "XLT" trim pieces around the tops of the wheel arches also. I bet you find a little rust under there too.

I should have taken mine off sooner. Your truck is in better shape than my 96, but don't get too comfortable those little rust spots show up fast and before you know it it's everywhere. I need at least 6 patch panels to fix mine. The worst place is cab corners on an extended cab. The little lip catches and holds mud, salt, crud etc.

My cab corners are shot too, they seem very thin to begin with and now there is holes right threw them. I used some filler to patch them up last fall and that did the truck for a while but now the rot is bubbling thew them. They are easy enough to cut out and put new ones in though but we havent had the time to, the truck is always on the go!

Oh and watch the tanny crossmember underneath, I had mine break because it was so rotted out! That was a hellova noise for sure!

I drilled hole just above lower body lines in door jamb and spray whole truck with used oil.

You may want to remove carpet for couple weeks till oil stops seeping. It really helps keep body nice.

I have 2 large sc corner on shelf I know its just a matter of time till they get really bad.

Well, it has a been almost a year and the winter has taken it's toll. I still haven't fixed the frame yet, but I'm getting to it very soon. I'm going to be making a new rear cross member as well. I do see a lot more rust since before winter. I was poking around today and there's a hole starting in my floorboards. Why did Ford make the floorboards paper thin?! Luckily it's only a small area. I'll weld a piece of sheet in there. It's weird, some parts of the truck look brand new, some of the frame still has the undercoating on it. Some parts look like they will fall right off! My spare tire holder had broken at the bolt mount because it was so rusted. My radiator suport looks like it might be in some need soon and the front two body mounts look a little rough. I never got a chnace to do it last year, but I'm definitely going to paint as much of the underneath as possible. I'm going to pull the bed and fix one of the supports and paint that too. I really want this truck to last a long time. The front driver's fender got worse as well and now it looks like rust is starting to bubble through on most of the other fenders. The rears aren't bad though. Once they start to rot out a lot, I'm going to buy some fiberglass fenders. I used the Car Quest rust stopping stray on my in the corners of my door jamb after removing a majority of the rust and painting it with touch up paint, but it is already starting to rust again.

I have a lot of work to do.
