my carb has just recently been rebuilt and its been runinng fine for about 6 months but now after taking care of the last hiccup my carb is flooding. gas it pouring out the front of it right above the accelerator pump. theres a little plastic rod in there that looks like it is seaperated wich might cause problems

i just got done looking at it with my dad and the float is stuck it has a new kit in it so it shouldn't stick right? It is sticky then it works freely then it is sticky any ideas on how best to take care of this? should i go as far as a new carb or just try to fix the float?
First, it would be useful to know what engine (and therefore, carb) you have.
Fix the problem. Throwing another carb at it is expensive and unnecessary.
Float must be set at the proper height. The manual or carb kit will have this measurement in it. Carb kits come with a little measuring tool to make it easier.
If it sticks intermittently, though, I'd say one of two things is probably the cause. Either the float is bad (has a hole in it, and sinks) or the needle valve is faulty. That's the little valve and seat deal that the float opens and closes.
You did not replace the fuel pump, did you? A fuel pump that puts out excessive pressure can force the needle valve open and flood the carb. This is usually only a problem if you go to a non-stock pump.

i have a 240 straight six and the carb is a ford 1 brl the numbers are hyg 901 according to the guy who rebuilt it for me. the fule pump isn't stock but im pretty sure thats not the problem, becuase it worked fine before. i looked at the float and it was sticking to the point where it wouldn't work on its own. my dad said the needle valve is fine, so it must be the float right?
