Stopping Thiefs

About 5 months ago I had the pleasure of having sombody brake into my truck and steal abunch of my stuff. That time they used a screwdriver on the passenger side door lock. After fixing that problem and installing an alarm. I figured I was good. Unfortunitly though somebody again tried to brake into my truck. Luckly the alarm went off so they never got in the truck. They still broke the drivers door lock though. Internally it still works but its all messed up on the outside. My question is, is there anything that I can do to keep low life pieces of crap from even attempting to brake in? I cant just keep buying lock cylinders and door handles.

There are alarms that will go off if the bad guys gets to close to the truck, before he has time to cause damage.. Do a search on Google..

I added two super bright blue flashing LED's to my alarm. One on each side of the dash by the air vents and clearly visible day or night to anyone walking up to the truck. Knock on wood, so far no attempts.

does your truck sit in the dark at night ? can you install a large flood lamp style light up high above your tuck, side of your house or tree ? bright light might help to detour them from hitting your truck again and again ?

dogs do work wonders for scaring away thieves, tie a dog to the bumper of your truck at night.

electrify the door handles of you truck with a couple hundred thousand volts ? this is very very illegal but you wont have any more repeat offenders ?

About electrifying the car body. My father way back when, did that to a car he owned because neighborhood kids kept letting air out of the tires. He used an old coil from something and hooked it to a 12 volt battery. A couple mornings after doing that, he found the neighborhood dog dead by the rear bumper. Apparently he went to take a leak on the rear tire and it electrocuted the poor dog. The neighbor thought it had been hit by a car and died near my dads car. Not only is it illegal to do this, but probably quite hazardous to living things. Hmmm I've got some young kids in my neighborhood that could use a lesson or two...

Just remember to untie the dog in the morning. I like the electrified door handle idea, you just have to put one of those "High Voltage" signs on your truck, and it shouldn't be a problem.

Option A: Get the bumper sticker that says "My truck isn't worth your life"
.

Option B: Electrify the chassis. A friend of mine did that after his wifes 3 week old Acura was stolen and stripped clean (with no GAP insurance). He is an electrician by trade and every night he would hook a jumper cable to the frame of his super duty, throw the switch in his garage that connected the cable to the breaker box, and let the good times roll. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, there were no known attempts to steal his truck. Couple close calls in the morning when he almost forgot to turn it off and disconnect the switch.

Im really liking the electrifying the car body idea. As far as everything else goes, its pretty much taken care of. I have to motion sensored flood lights in my drive way and my window is right about the drive way. Infact the two blue leds that flash in the truck light up through my bedrood window. As far as the dog, I think I should go out and get 220lb rott, because the 7lb ****zu it doing much. Unfortunitly though Im thinking its during the day while Im at work. I park the thing where I can watch it allday from my bay, but I still have to go on test drives and crap like that. I also work where there are at lot of semis and with those setting the alarm off throught the day my co-workers never pay much attention to whats going on.

I thinking about, door handles off of a crew cab, no access to the locks. The only thing is if my truck battery dies, no keyless entry. Maybe a positive jumper point under the fender or hood release.

like the idea of back door handles off of a crew cab. looks clean and deters the idiots. Just need a plan B. Used to work for an ambulance company that had a hidden button on the chassis that you could push to unlock the doors if you locked the keys in it (was on a super duty F450). for some reason the doors locekd on them, all of them. Wouldn't solve your battery concern, though

I have a 90# Rottweiller/Labrador mix that hates everyone but me and the kids and she sleeps under mine every night. She already attacked and bit one guy (Katrina refugee) that was peaking in the windows and she's ran off a couple of others. Still, that doesn't protect me when we are away from the house (if she isn't in the back which she is a lot) and I have been wanting to install an alarm and a start disabling device. That would give me some piece of mind on those rare occasions when we drive the truck into Houston. PSDs disappear in Houston and wind up in Mexico. As a matter of fact I talked to the guy that I sold my '99 to and it was stolen in Houston last week. Stolen right out of his driveway in Houston.

Back to suggestions. Get a dog and the idea of bright lights are good too. I have both of those and they work pretty good around here.

if it gets really bad, you can always shave the lock cylinders, just have a keyfob that unlocks the truck, but no cylinder to jimmy with. but then they might start breaking windows, never know.

Get a good alarm with a kill switch and shock sensors. Then do the really bright LEDs. I have this on mine as well, and so far, no one has tried anything.
