i'm swappin in a 460 in place of the 351m but dont have the 460's fly wheel cause it had a standard flywheel on it, so what is different between them? can i adaptit to work?
its the wrong balance... if you try to use a 351m flywheel on a 460 the 460 will vibrate itself apart on short order, toasting bearings and possibly breaking the crank. if you want a relatively cheap solution you could go to a junkyard and get a flywheel for a 390- theyre neutral balance and the 460 is neutral balance... unless you have a 1979+ 460, then theyre external balance and you have to get the proper 460 flywheel.
i did it again!!!! i keep callin a flexplate, a flywheel!! ,sorry!!! i have a perfectly good flywheel, clutch+pressure plate, etc, but need to get a flexplate to put the 460 in my 78 bronco with a automatic c-6 sorry for the misprint!!
Well you still need the one for a 460, and you need to know if you have an internal or external balanced motor. Do you know what year it is, or the casting number on the block?
then you need the flexplate for an internally balanced engine. you should be able to get one from a local autoparts store just make sure it's a nuetral balance for that engine.
Jegs carries them to for about $77 part number 490-12-060
