What is the best way to retreive the codes from my truck. I know that some programmers can do this but i have a DP tuner and do not need a new programmer, unless you can stack a new one with the DP?
Well, I hate to say it but I have the AE or Autoenginuity. Need a laptop and about $350 some odd bucks. Pulls them all and does logging of what is going on.
sorry to hijack but i got a few questions about the AE... i was just looking at their web site and this thing looks SWEET!!! i want one! and depending on your answers, i am going to order one today... i was wondering if all the functions of the speed tracer application are going to work with my f-250? as well as all the functions of the actual scan tool?
The speed tracer is not fully functional (some of it works) since our trucks don't have a few of the necessary sensors.
As for the scan tool itself, it's VERY useful and intuitive. It goes way beyond just code retrieval. You can monitor and record live data. I use AE, and so to many of the folks here on this board.
There may be a few out there that can, but every Autozone, Napa, Pep Boys, and Advanced Auto that I've been to cannot pull codes from my truck and do not carry code readers that are even compatible with the PSD's. I've tried many times in the past before purchasing AE and it never worked. Thought for sure I'd get lucky once, but nope. So don't be surprised if you go to one of those places asking them to retrieve a code and see nothing pop up.
I have not had any luck going to a parts store. I do have a mechanic that will hook it up for me for $45 but I could pay for the AE pretty quick paying that.

Yeah, it doesn't take long. The wife has a F150 and I just got my AC fixed in my patrol car after telling them my alternator was no longer up to the task based on datalogging with my AE. That's right, AC was cutting out during long idle periods due to PCM detecting low output at alternator and sacrificing AC to keep the engine cool and running. Matter of fact, I couldn't get the thing to put out over 13.1 volts no matter what I did. Now I'm cool again. Been in the 90s here the last few days.
Also, I have not had any luck with part store scans. Besides, they won't do a buzz test or contribution test.
So for the AE can it test all fords and mercury's, my wife has a mountaineer and it would be easier to convince her to let me get the AE and laptop if it worked on hers!
Wil the $350 setup from AE work on our 7.3's it says the min for ford.
Yep. All FMC products with the extended Ford bundle. I believe Mazda falls into this category too but you need to check the site. That's how I sold the product here at my homestead.
Also, IIRC, there was some 487 sensors available on my crown vic patrol car. Not really sure most are even that useful but it makes you wait while it detects all of them.

Just another .02 for the AE. Don't forget that while WE need the enhanced bundle to read codes on our NON-OBD trucks, it will pull OBD codes for ALL OBDII equipped vehicles. I used it on my buddies 05 Volvo wagon to pull codes and clear the CEL.
That is correct, as long as it has the same connector. I forgot that. Of course the extended sensor info for logging will not be there without the appropriate software.
What about some of the tuners out there that can pull codes? Does anyone have any experience with one? I have been debating Chip vs tuner, and like the fact that some tuners can enhance engine performance and tranny shifting and read codes. I am not sure if there are any chips that can do the tranny and read codes. Any thoughts?
