I remember reading of this some weeks after the rescue. At the same time My S.F. nephew was there. It could have just as easily been his team...I remember being prayerfully grateful that it was not.
Heroes are cut from cloths of many colors. The heroes of that village will shine forever bright.
Ford51, I don't know how old you are, but war is very deadly. I was in Vietnam for 14 months, and it was not the best place to be. Always thinking about surviving the place. You say you want to join the Military. Just remember, you could be sent to war at any time. I was drafted in Aug. 68., and so I did not have a choice. If you do join the Military, I will support you, and the troops.
US Army 68-70
Vietnam 69-70
The likelihood of me joining is slim. I would like too for the experience and for the service but I would like to get into college when i graduate and get that over with and get the ball rolling. The military would slow me down a few years. I appreciate the concern, but I think anyone desiring to be in the military should be perfectly comfortable with the possibility of going to war. I need to go sign up for the draft, a lot of my friends talk harshly of this new buzz about a possible draft being implemented, but I am not bothered by it at all. If theres a draft and my numbers drawn then all that means is someones making the decision for me. If no one joined the military because they were afraid of war, we wouldnt have any more stories like this one.
heck, college? officer? no problem! the military is great and i met the best people ever in it, and there is always a connection among military members, former and present, especially ones that were together in "hectic" situations.
i didn't want to be in a battle, thats why i was on a submarine, i would never be involved in anything short of a nuclear war, then i would be in the safest place in the world anyway.
