Over Rail Question

Does anyone know how to tell if your overhead rail system is rear dvd player ready? Is there some type of marking I should be looking for that will let me know.

If you remove your overhead bins, you will see a hole cut in the headliner with
a connector. If you purchase the OEM unit, all you should have to do is plug the connector to the DVD unit

Thanks, I removed the overhead compartment and sure enough there is a hole there and there is a wiring harness there. I imagine I have the dvd prep package.

The connector in the hole is not for the overhead dvd player. The factory kit comes with an additional storage compartment that goes onto the rail system then the dvd player mounts. If you have the DVD prep package you will have to cut a hole in the headliner with the template that comes with the DVD player to access the wiring harness. My dealer printed the instructions for me and the template is included with them.

I was told by the Dealer ( I have a Lincoln Mark LT so it may be different) that
my truck is DVD prep'd. The bin that came with the truck doesn't state anything. I can't thing of anything that those wires in the hole would be for if it wasn't for the Rear DVD. Perhaps the factory DVD has a smaller bin that medic 92 mentioned. I do not know. I am curius because I was going to by an OEM DVD player.

the factory dvd player does come with an additional storage bin that snaps into the rail system behind the one from the factory. The player itself has a 26 pin connector for the wires to plug into. The window sticker on my truck had the dvd prep package as a $30 option. I believe all the screws have the hole and connector behind the factory bin. A friend of mine has an 05 that has them and he does not have the dvd prep package.

If not for the rear dvd system then what is it for. Surely it isnt for another dome light. I don't inderstand why there would be wires there.

I don't know and I asked my dealer and they did not know but it is not for the dvd player. The Dvd player has to have a bunch of wires for power, ground, speekers, etc. It took several hours to find out from the dealer what I know about the DVD player they were not familiar with them and had to look every thing up. Do you have the window sticker from your truck?

No I dont have the window sticker. You would think the salesman would be more knowledgable about the overhead rail system and the options that go with it.
