hey everybody, i was wondering we just got done changing our cluth pack and flywheel to the luk one after some problems we had where the truck just completely quit moving, well we took it for a test drive and it acted like it was stuck in 4-low but it was set in 2 wheel drive and the hubs weren't locked or anything, so just for the hell of it i locked the hubs in and actually shifted it into 4-low and drove it maybe 20 feet and it ran ok just like it would in 4-low but then i stopped and put it back in 2 wheel drive and it wouldnt even move an inch, the cluth feels great and i can go through every single gear with no issues but when i release the clutch it doesn't do anything no noises nothin, so i was pissed and we could only push it maybe 2 feet before it would feel like it was just locking up (we had both the tranny and transfer in neutral) so i just hooked up a chain to it and pulled it maybe 15 feet forward got back in and just like that it moves again, but it still acts like its stuck in 4-low....so im pretty sure the transfer case is screwed and i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this kinda problem or any ideas....oh yeah and its a 99 f-350 with the 7.3 diesel, zf tranny and im not sure what the transfer is. thanks for any help and sorry for it being so long
Welcome to FTE.
I had exactly the same experience and if you can do a clutch job you can fix the transfer case.
It requires that you split the case, but it's much easier than it sounds.
Here's the thread with pictures.
