Red face Hello

Does anyone know about a code 51 on the air bag light in a 1996 Aerostar?

Hi Cheryl1961,Welcome to FTE!I sure hope that you dont have a code51.That means that the internal thermal fuse in the airbag monitor is blown and means you need a new one.

Thank you for replying to my question. I found another message when I searched for info that this was the fuse you are talking about and that the fuse needed replacing. Are you saying that I need a new air bag???? Do you know if there is any chance that the air bag will deploy because of this? I wouldn't want to get a surprise while driving. Thanks again!

Nope, that is not what I am saying. The thermal limiter fuse is (built in) to the air bag monitor and can not be replaced separately. And,no you dont have to worry about the air bag going off,in fact, because the limiter fuse is blown, the air bag wont deploy even if you get in an accident. The monitor is not part of the airbag,it is a little (brain) box that is under the dash.

Now with that said, look around FTE,check out the search feature for your airbag problem, there are alot of kind folks here that either have had the same problem you have,or are a service tech like me.This is the best site on the internet, not just for your truck problems, but for anything. If you need a laugh, there are tons of joke threads,If you need a friend, you will find a ton of them here,if you need advice on concrete,we even have experts on that! So,like I said, welcome to FTE,and check out all the different forums, you will enjoy it.(I think)

Smile Hello

Hello -

I have a '97 F250 pulling a 7,700# trailer. `Doing research on replacing it with an F250 diesel. I've gotten very helpful info from your site.

Thanks
