I come to you guys with a question about high efficency furnaces. We recently had a York Affinity 8.T furnace installed and we were told by the installers that it would save us on our energy costs. But it seems like this thing runs once every 5 minutes and out gas bill has gone up in recent months not down (and its not even cold outside!). How do these work? How can it be saving me money if it runs so much?
What I don't get is the new standard for having Fresh air intake .
This draws a LOT of cold air then heats it..rather than boost heated air inside the house and having a only a bit of Cold fresh air.
I m no furnace expert but I would check simple stuff 1st. did the thermostast get move to a different spot on the wall where it might be colder. is it set higher than before. window cracked . compair your bills to new ones are u truely using more btu s . prices might have gone up per btu check your air filter too dirty air filters can cause heat a/c problems a/c if central can clog up even more in summer.next call your furnace installer , might be thermocouple ????????????? hope this helps
Does your fresh air go through a heat exchanger before it enters the furnace, or is the fresh air for combustion only? These were built mainly due to new houses being built so tight today, they have to draw air from somewhere.
herman391; It seems like your flame is set to low,or your veriable speed fan is not working correctly.
Did the salesperson tell you it would be more efficient than your old furnace? If so, I would have the service guys come out and find out what is wrong with it. Could be one of a dozen things that is not working properly and a trained service technician could probably spot it right away..
yes what tonyford too could be serveral things call them they might be able to tell you something over the phone to try. my uncle works and sells them people will call him all hours of day and night
We have called the repair people several times, the first few times they changed some settings and then left, on the third visit they did replace the fan but it still does it. tewferford, how do i tell if the air is going through a heat exchanger first or if it for combustion only?
Thanks for all your help guys, hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.
EDIT: I forgot to mention this before but when you put your hand over the vent when the furnace is running, it feels like there is some warm air coming out but the majority of the air coming out is cold.

I am sorry I was talking to mil1ion and you at the same time. Did they hook anything up outside to measure outside temps? If they did that may be out of wack. Did you try turning the t stat up to like 80*? If you didn't try it and see how the heat feels coming out of the register. Also feel if it coming out stronger. These new units adjust themselves for certain conditions. Something is not reading correctly.
Is it a heat pump with gas aux heat or gas only? If it's a heat pump, like my POS, maybe it's stuck in the wrong mode. If that happens, it's cranking out cool (A/C) air and the aux heat will kick in to try to warm it up. Long story next...(just a gripe, might save someone the same headache I had)...
One December, I got a bill from CP&L for over $800, when it usually runs less than $200 that time of year. I called CP&L and asked WTF? I asked them to check the meter because there was no way I used that much power in one month. They said it had read high for past couple of months, but the office thought the meter reader made a mistake, so they just billed me for an average month. After the last reading, they figured it was accurate and billed me for everything. They told me to make sure all my major appliances were working properly. I found out that my heat pump was stuck A/C mode and the 10,000 watt heat strips were kicking in every time the heat unit kicked on. I got that fixed, but complained to CP&L that if they had billed me correctly to begin with, I would have known something was wrong two months earlier and fixed it then. They agreed to waive the excess charges for the last two months though.
