My '49 F2 6 cyl won't crank over. The truck will pop start and once it is it will run fine. The battery is brand new and the starter was tested today. The lights and turn signals all come on. But when i hit the starter button, the motor doens't turn, it only makes a dull thud and the fan moves about a 1/2".
The other day i drove it to a friends house down the road and when i shut it off it owuldn't start. I went insideto call my parents beuase i had my little sister wth me and i didn't want them to wonder where i was and when i came out my buddy was trying to jump start it with his 99 cavalier. After that i could only pop start it.
I was thinking that the 12V from the cav probably blew something, but i don't know what.
First thing to check is the ground to the engine. It sounds to me you may have dirty connection somewhere. Also, check the cable going to the starter, if the cable there is not completely clean you'll just get an momentary bump of the engine.
Not enough info. If you have a 6 vdc pos ground and the cav has a 12 vdc neg ground, you could have ruined the starter, battery etc. If pop start means push vehicle and pop the clutch to start then maybe nothing other than starter circuit has a fault. As the guru said, ck grounds and power wires to the starter and grounds to battery/block for looseness, corrision and condition. I have also seen a bad spot on the starter that causes the same problem.Have you had the starter out resently? Did this start after working on the truck or just started during normal use? Have a great day, chuck
