Hi Everyone. The rear wheel wells (both sides) of my 84 F150 started showing signs of rust last year and it's gradually getting worse and worse. I know this is a common problem on these trucks but any recommendations on the best way to handle it? It kills me to see this stuff eating away at my truck.....
They make patch panels. Cut the old out, use flanging pliers to offset the remaining edge, and fasten the new panel in. Smear a little bondo over the seam, and you are ready to go.
Or skip the cheasy flange method and weld them in like they should be. Do a good enough job you will need no bondo that will eventually crack and ruin any new paint you put on it.
Depends on how much you value the truck though. Many do it the easy way. I don't think its worth doing unless you do it right.
i dont know im not trying to be a jerk but i dont think its because of the square wheel wells the 87-96 have round like mine and they rust there its just a common place for the fords
OUR trucks have cheezy little panels back there. OUR trucks are used for work and other things, like being driven on the roads of the world. The dirt builds up back there because of the flimzy excuse for protection designed into them, and they begin to rust because they cant dry out properly because of the dirt and other stuff that gets up in there.
It has happened in almost every truck I see anymore around here. They salt the roads in winter here, and I bet most people here just dont clean the undersides of their cars after the bad weather passes.
