I have a 2001 Mazda B3000 dual sport pick-up with the famous Ford Vulcan 3.0 V6 engine. The motor has approx. 67,000 miles on it. Recently, I have noticed a chirping sound that I thought originally was the squeeking of the serpentine belt. It appears now my first assumption was incorrect. The sound appears to be coming from the rear of the engine. It is a intermittent sound that gets louder and softer and changes pitch. This annoying sound even goes away completely at times, but always comes back. I was told that it is somekind of spark syhcro unit that costs about $115.00 for the part and about 1 to 2 hours of labor to replace. Over a $300.00 total. Can anybody out there shine a little more light on what they think this might be?, and if there's a cheaper route to remedy? Thanks!...AFR
For the skinny on your question you will want to post it in the tech forums. Just click on the Forums tab at the upper left and scroll over the list. There is a forum for your engine and the Ranger forum can also be of help. Stop in your state chapter and see what's up in your state. They are located towards the end of the Forums list.
