Starting problems,Looking at getting a chip.

So finally got my license. can now cruise the town in my F-150. some concerns have popped up.

When I turn the key say in the morning. she fires right up no problem. when I turn the truck off walk into a store and try and turn her over it requires me to give the engine a little gas or else it will not start. what is causing this? bad starter? faulty ignition system? no lights have come on just wondering.

Before the fall/winter I have a list of things I want to get done.

Repair any oil leaks.
Perform a radiator flush.
Replace hoses.
New Coil, Wires, Ignition.
Chip it.

Any input on how to maybe squeeze performance out of that would be appreciated.

Now the chip. I have no clue what my computer code is. the sticker wore off by the looks of it. or is it on the main sticker in the door with the vin where it was made diff codes? and who should I look at getting a chip?

I live in edmonton alberta canada is there any shops that are good with Ford truck performance?

What year is the truck? I had a similar problem with mine and it was screwed up injectors leaking remaining pressurinzed fuel after the engine was turned off. Causing it to become flooded. I replaced all of the injectors and the problem has been gone for several years. As far as a chip goes, I wouldn't do it. Especially on the older trucks, most of them only tune at wide open throttle. I would rather do other mods such as exhaust, ignition, intake etc, or maybe even a cam upgrade to a mild rv cam that is compatible with the computer.

you are on the right track. get everything working perfect before you even think about mods. no one here can help you much if you dont tell us about what you have.

I would definitely do all the service work and tune up stuff first.

oh sorry my truck is a 92 F-150 E4OD 2wd with a 3.55 NON LS.

Every one has been talking about doing a mass air conversion to make the truck more easy to tune/upgrade stuff like heads and cam's. I unserstand cams with a 114 degree or above lobe seperation will not affect my SD computer.

Now that it could be injectors I am seriously thinking of doing the conversion. the only problem is the e40d. its controlled by the computer. not only that but I do not have any experience taking parts off a vehicle. I put on a K&N intake thats about it. Nor do I think I could build the wiring harness. If I was to do the swap I would put 24lb injector's in and a computer from a 96 f-150 that had e40d control. Kits for this are in the +1250 dollar range and I aint rich. I f some one could make me a list of all the componets I need it would help.

this would happen only after the ignition the oil leak fixed and all the other good stuff finished. with the bigger injectors would I need to upgrade the fuel system?

Why oh why did I have to put the intake and the exhaust on my truck after getting a taste all I want to do is make it faster.

forget the K&N and all that hip stuff that you hang on the outside of the engine you can spend a lot of money on that stuff an not gain anything. the best place for you to spend money on that truck after you get it tweaked is on a big transmission cooler.

the best air filter you can get is the one that came on the truck. if you have money to burn then Chang it more often
