I want a tonneau cover to securely hide hunting gear, and easily enough removed (by myself in a minute or two) to haul large items. I really like the one that comes on the Chevy Avalanche. It is a hard plastic, and comes in three easily removed sections. Anyone have any suggestions?
By the way... I just found this site today, and this is my first post.
Welcome! I've got an Undercover Tonneau. I believe it's one of the strongest ones on the market. I was lucky enough to buy it used off a guy for $400. Hardcovers usually retail for over $600, I think the one you're referring to sounds like the Extang Trifecta (sp?). Check out http://motorhaven.autoanything.com, I believe they carry most brands and the shipping is reasonable for such a large item.
Also, there is a hardcover brand on ebay, Armor Lid, that's about $500 delivered. Not sure of the fit or quality though.
My old chevy had snaps. I dreaded having to open & close it during the winter and the three support poles were awkward to use.
My 05 Screw has a Lund tri-fold ($340). The cover and frame is one piece and the unit folds into thirds. Drop the gate, unlock a quick clamp on each side, fold the unit twice, clip each side to retain it, and you now have access to 2/3 of your bed. Unlock two more clamps and remove if you want full access. There are no rails to mount.
Can't be stolen without destroying it if the gate is locked. I've had it 2 year and no problems.

I have a Pace Edwards roll up hard top tonneau. I really like it. This thing rolls up itself, so all yopu have to do is give it a push. No issues to speak of and it locks up tight.
My only complaint is that the box where the roll-up mechanism is and where the cover rolls into, take up a bit of room in the bed.
You might want to check out our new Truxedo Deuce cover. It is the first soft roll-up, hinged tonneau cover combination. It's the only cover that opens from the front of the bed and rolls fully open from the back. It's a great cover to have when you store items at the front and need to get at them quickly. Or if you have something that has rolled toward the front you can grab it in a hurry instead of having to unroll your whole cover.
It has the exclusive automatic tension control system and the same sleek design as the Truxedo Lo Profile. And right now we are offering a rebate coupon for FTE members only. http://www.truxedo.com/index.html
